Joseph Cella is Back - Taking the Opposite Tack from Pope Francis
Recent polls have shown that American Catholics are turning their backs on Donald Trump. But culture war veteran Joseph Cella is now trying to lead the charge in the other direction. As the current president of Catholic Vote.org Cella has been politically long involved with Domino's Pizza founder Thomas Monaghan in a variety of capacities. (One of these was Fidelis, a Monaghan-funded political organization which, may have engaged in questionable financial activity) Like former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, Cella fears a U.S. Supreme Court shaped by a Hillary Clinton presidency. He is concerned for religious freedom (as he defines it) as the be and end-all, and so he is leading the charge for a support group calling itself "Catholics4Trump." The "About Us" section of its web site is a steaming pot of hyperbole consistent with the bizarre standard of this election season.
This is the most critical presidential election in the history of the United States. Hillary Clinton, a corrupt, radical pro-abortion, anti-Christian career politician threatens to change the face of America forever. If elected, she will name three to four Supreme Court justices, cementing Roe v. Wade into the Constitution and losing the court for generations if not forever. Hillary Clinton opposes home schooling and believes it is the government's right to educate children and not the parents. She will restrict religious speech and persecute Christians who refuse to support her radical social agenda. She will promote illegal immigration and allow millions of unvetted illegal immigrants into our country. The illegal population will vote democrat far into the future so that no conservative can have a viable chance to be elected president. All Catholics have a moral obligation to vote for the only viable alternative to Hillary Clinton in this election: Donald Trump. Let's consider this statement for a moment. While there are many distortions in this short space, several things jump out at the reader.
It is worth underscoring that while Pope Francis speaks out for workers who do not receive a living wage, Cella and his cohorts support a man who has declared that wages are too high. And while Francis has spoken out on the danger of Global Warming, Trump is a climate science denier. And while the Pope has also expressed a desire to tone down the divisive rhetoric on biological issues in favor economic and social justice, Cella and Catholics4Trump have taken the opposite tack.
