I'll start with the disclaimers: Yes, I am horrified and disgusted by the attitudes expressed by these clueless men; and yes, I know that "rape" as used in The Fantasticks means an abduction, not a violent violation of a person's body. But I've seen this chart several times on Facebook and now here, and I just can't help thinking of the song "It Depends on What You Pay."

You can get the rape emphatic.
You can get the rape polite.
You can get the rape with Indians:
A very charming sight.
You can get the rape on horseback;
They'll all say it's new and gay.
So you see the sort of rape
Depends on what you pay.
It depends on what you
Pay.

Maybe there's a philosophical lesson in there somewhere.

Yeah, I saw this first on a tumblr I follow, and yeah there is enough going on here to teach a class on this. What gets to me though is that women have a slight majority in the U.S. and yet these politicians seem to think that they can receive votes solely from white, straight, cisgender, christian, middle-to-upper-middle class, male vote and win. I think we can all agree that the blame the victim stuff needs to stop, and it would be nice if this election were a referendum on that instead of our dysfunctional government. Sorry about the rant, but this has been bothering me for some time.

...that's allegorical for the state of politics in America today, and I see no quick or easy way out of the situation, given the flood of unaccountable corporate cash dominating this electoral cycle. But this chart does make clear that there are at least some differences between the two major U.S. political parties.
