Religious Right cruelty demonstrated

They're about to pass some of the most draconian laws yet against women's rights, and a comment by one politician is really revealing.

Today there was something really revealing about Florida political attitudes in the paper.

They're really trying to make abortions nearly impossible to get in this state.  Mandatory viewing of ultrasound images, waiting periods, parental notification, all of this is coming.  (Plus attempts to eliminate separation of church and state, teaching of creationism, stripping people of their rights, etc.)

One of the bills bans getting abortions with public funds, even if a woman's life is in danger.

The scary thing is the response from Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, who said that life was inherently risky.

QUOTE: "Life is dangerous to our health and death is unforeseen to all of us," he said.

OK, why don't they return risk to investments?  Isn't risk supposed to be connected to profit?  Why do they protect the rich from loss of profits, but not the poor from LOSS OF LIFE???

In other words, he's telling a poor woman who will die if she doesn't get an abortion "tough luck, we don't care!".

Typical Religious Right cruelty and heartlessness, and dedication to a failed ideology in spite of the harm they do to others.  They claim to be Christian, but unlike Jesus, care nothing for the "least of these".

They deserve the strongest condemnation.

ed - here's some more context for the quote in question:

"Rep. Scott Randolph, D-Orlando, raised his voice as he blasted a proposed constitutional amendment banning public funding of abortions, even when a woman's life is in danger.

"Are we going to put women on their death beds?" Randolph said.

Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, said life is inherently risky.

"Life is dangerous to our health and death is unforeseen to all of us," he said." (source)

Because for all that "Life is dangerous to our health and death is unforeseen to all of us," I bet they go to doctors (what with that cherry health insurance they have, after all), and use antibiotics, and have surgery if they end up with appendicitis, and use seat belts, and I bet they even look both ways before they cross streets.

I wonder how long before this quote gets picked up as a defense by the "we prayed over our sick child instead of taking her to the doctor" crowd.

Do these people even think before they open their mouths, or do they simply not know how?

IMO, what they're saying is "We have to punish you and if you die, it's appropriate punishment for having sex without permission!!!"  Plus, it's also a way of saying "We aren't responsible for what happens to you even though it was because of OUR decision!!!".

I don't think they know how to think... I do know from the years I spent in the Assemblies that thinking critically (and for one's self) was strongly discouraged, and the emphasis was on "OBEY!".

I've read a related story from this blog and I stand on the same ground - If death is imminent and abortion is the only way to save a woman's life, would they not approve of it? Such dull thinking. - Mary G. - Reviewer - Bill Bartmann Review

This is the analysis of the writer with regards to the deliberation of the coming laws. I actually admire him for extracting the right hypothesis not only the coming law but the situation of the state as well as in other nation. Government is created for the people by the people yet those who are rich shall received more. Hand poured candles, Garden Decorations, used cars under 1000
