TheCall Detroit: A Window Into 2012 Religio-Political Strategies for Minority Outreach
TheCall and International House of Prayer (IHOP) leadership orchestrated Rick Perry's The Response event, which is now being duplicated in several states prior to the primaries. The first of these events will be held at the Rivers of Life Ministries in Cedar Rapids, a church founded by Francis Frangipane. Frangipane, a well-known prophet, was also on stage at TheCall Detroit. Lou Engle and IHOP leaders have also been part of the Champion the Vote/United in Purpose outreach effort which has included live streaming to churches and Pastors' Policy Briefing events, and now is centered around church and house parties to watch a new Champion the Vote/United in Purpose 2-hour DVD titled "One Nation Under God." A previous DVD from the same effort was titled "Rediscover God in America." These events have included Newt Gingrich, Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry, and Haley Barbour. This year there were also Pastors Policy Briefings held in Florida and Iowa. Engle has been a regular fixture at the Rediscover God in America events held at the Rock Church. This year the Rock Church event included Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, David Barton, Oliver North and Bob McEwen. At a 2009 Rediscovering God in America event at the Rock Church, Engle laid hands and prayed over both Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee. Both that event and TheCall Detroit were internationally televised by God TV. 11.11.11 During TheCall Detroit, IHOP's Mike Bickle claimed that other events were being held simultaneously around the country and the world. There was a sparsely attended event in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena organized by the California Listening Team, part of the apostolic and prophetic prayer network in that state. California is one of the states in which the New Apostolics are organizing "prayer warriors" by precincts. The event featured Bill Hamon, a leading international apostle, who has been the topic of other Talk2action.org articles. The event at the Rose Bowl was titled "A Line in the Sand" and had a dramatic promotional trailer that starts with a woman swinging a sword.
Bickle also claimed that a simultaneous 11.11.11 event was being held just outside Cairo, Egypt, adding that the leaders of TheCall Detroit event are good friends with the leaders of the Cairo event. Other articles written about the events during TheCall Detroit include coverage by Wayne Besen at at Truth Wins Out, Haroon Moghul at Religion Dispatches, and coverage in the Detroit Free Press. Also see my first follow up article on TheCall at this link. I will be writing more about the Identificational Repentance and Reconciliation ceremonies at TheCall and how these ceremonies combined with David Barton's revisionist histories are being used to recruit African Americans. The reconciliation effort not only included apologies for slavery and discrimination, but also apologies by African American participants to, "...repent to our white brothers & sisters for the black ideologies, the black militancies that even Detroit has been a center of."The speaker said African Americans should aspire to be like Uncle Tom, a "Christ-like figure." TheCall has formed an African American youth-based movement called 818 that held a three-day event in Atlanta in August. Kamal Saleem in Independence, MO I've been distracted this week from continuing my follow up articles on TheCall with efforts to get audio and information about Kamal Saleem to Independence, Missouri. Today Saleem is speaking at an interfaith community prayer breakfast sponsored by the Independence mayor's office. Saleem was one of the featured speakers at TheCall Detroit and in the pre-TheCall conference calls with Transformation Michigan. Saleem's narrative about being an ex-terrorist (with both the PLO and Muslim Brotherhood) has not been corroborated. In a pre-TheCall conference call with Transformation Michigan/Oak Initiative, Saleem claimed that President Obama wants Shariah law. He appears to know little about Islam or Islamic history. Part of his bizarre and rambling narrative included the claim that the Cordoba Initiative has a secret meaning to Muslims based on the invasion of Cordoba, Spain by the Ottoman Empire. He adds that subsequently the invaders boiled 80,000 people in Cordoba in pots in the streets and then hung up their body parts around the city in order to rule by fear. Cordoba fell to the Moors in 711. There was no Ottoman Empire until 1299.
In the article at Religion Dispatches, Haroon Moghul writes about attending TheCall Detroit and hearing Kamal Saleem speak in the 3:00 - 6:00 a.m. time slot dedicated to prayer to evangelize Muslims in Michigan and worldwide. Moghul writes that he had not heard of Saleem before hearing him speak but quickly suspected that his claims were dubious, stating, "I'm not saying Kamal Saleem is definitely a fraud; it may simply be that he was raised by one of the dumbest Muslim families in the world." The Oak Initiative, based at Rick Joyner's Morningstar Ministries, has produced a several videos of Saleem and the organization is working with Frank Gaffney's Center for Security Policy to promote anti-Shariah bills to state legislatures.
Sojourners published an article yesterday that concisely described the TheCall and similar New Apostolic Reformation campaigns. "They lure African Americans, Latinos, and other racial minority Christians into their program by conducting ceremonies of repentance for past sins, but then they use their expanded platform to demonize Muslims and gay people, and promote an extreme Christian Zionist agenda."
