Strang-er Than Fiction: Chuck Pierce Gets Dramatic Message from God

Several days I ago I received a bulk email from Charisma magazine, featuring a message from its publisher, Stephen Strang. Strang - one of Time magazine's "25 Most Influential Evangelicals in America" -  has worked tirelessly to assimilate the neo-Pentecostal movement into the wider Christian right, with supernatural interpretations of current affairs that turn critics of George W. Bush into enemies of God. As he explains in the email:
I believe prayer and spiritual warfare brought about shifts in prior political campaigns--such as the narrow win in Florida for George W. Bush during the recount in 2000. Prayer was also responsible for the installation of certain Supreme Court justices when their appointments appeared to be politically unlikely.

The main focus of his email, however, is to endorse a message from God supposedly revealed to neo-Pentecostal leader Chuck Pierce during a night-time trip to the toilet - a message which declares that next two months will be "the most rearranging, realigning months that we have ever known in the history of this generation".
According to Pierce:
The Lord woke me at 1 o'clock on Tuesday morning. As I walked into the bathroom I noticed a calligraphy verse: Lean not on your own understanding. This verse lit up even though the light was not on in the bathroom. The verse became red and yellow like fire. When I went back in at 5 AM, I noticed that the verse was actually in navy blue!

During this second nocturnal visit, God revealed a 1,500 essay to him, which he was able to write down verbatim afterwards. However, it seems that God was in a rather vague and rambling mood. Here's a taster:
Abrasive circumstances will increase over these next 40 days. Lean not on your own understanding. I will show you things that you do not know during this time. I will cause you to see the pattern that I am forming. Do not fall into an understanding of the past, even the past 40 years, for in the next 40 days I am producing a new time of understanding in My people. For My wisdom is not your wisdom. I am creating a fear and an awe of Me! I will show you how evil is working. I will let you hear the voice of evil - that voice that has been distracting, confronting, and taunting you. My cause will rise up in you....Don't miss your window of opportunity or fail to recognize the catalyst I am creating for rearranged momentum. Receive an anointing to leap over the mountain that has been deceiving and intimidating you...

The whole text (available here) is of the same sort, and with no actual specifics doubtless anything will be able to fit the prophecy. Presumably, however, it has something to do with the race for the presidency (Strang backed Huckabee).

Pierce heads up Glory of Zion International Ministries, and according to his profile:

...He is on the Executive Board of the International Coalition of Apostles, the Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders, and the International Society of Deliverance Ministers. Chuck is also a member of the International Federation of Churches and Ministers. He coordinates prayer for many of the major spiritual events and gatherings around the world. He also serves as National Apostle of the U.S. Global Apostolic Prayer Network.

The membership list of the International Coalition of Apostles was recently brought to my attention, and can be seen here. Alongside Pierce, the guiding lights are C. Peter Wagner and John Kelly. Wagner, of course, is the most famous name (see here for a short profile), and his ideas about "spiritual warfare" and the role of the demonic were very popular in certain circles in both in the USA and elsewhere in the 1990s. According to Pierce in 2005, on-going problems in Iraq are due to "the power of sorceries of Babylon". Other contributors to Talk to Action have explored this area of Charismatic Christian dominionism in more detail, for example here.

This reminded me of another mystical toileting revelation, received by Carl Jung as a teenager or pre-pubescent. The jist of it seemed to be that God (the divine) excreted. It was a symbolic revelation.

Pierce's seems a bit more politically targeted though.

Furthermore, wouldn't one expect God to be a better writer/orator?

I am a bit perplexed by all of these "leaders" who get these wild messages from their deity of choice.
My deity said the following to me while I was cleaning out the stalls in my barn:
  1. All humans better start loving one another now.  2. No more fighting and killing one another.
  2. No more super wealthy folks, no human needs more than what is needed to be reasonably safe and comfortable.
  3. Share the land and the bounty gained from it with all who live there.
  4. No human can dictate how to live to another.
  5. All humans are equally free.
  6. She said that all books of all religions are written by greedy insecure dictators who want to rule over people, she would never tell us to kill one another.
  7. She said to respect one another, never place yourself above or below another human.
  8. Respect the earth, she is the mother of all life and she believes in mutual respect.
Now was that a wild and crazy message or what?
Who's message was better?

I find it interesting that Bush has pushed very hard and got legislation passed to enable him to take over dictatorial powers in the event of an internal emergency such as another 9/11.

A new tape, verified by the CIA, from Bin Laden has surfaced although Bhutto, in a BBC interview,  (altered immediately, removing the comment by the next airing) stated that Bin Laden was already dead and had been so since 1961.

An aide to Bush stated that he had "a feeling" that there would be another 9/11-like incident soon.

Now these wonderful words from God in the bathroom.

I wonder if there will even be another election or will the "incident" take place as soon as it looks as if the Democrats are going to win.

Heil Bush!

Sorry - that should be "Bin Laden has been dead since about  2001".
