Bush and Pope to Meet in US
Pope Benedict is going to talk about his "commitment" to "strengthening human rights and freedoms, especially religious liberty"? Pardon me while I have a good laugh about that notion. This is the same pope who says that governments must pass laws to censor any expression that "would offend the religious sentiments of believers." This is the same pope who had the official Vatican newspaper condemn a comedian as a "terrorist" for making fun of him and the church:
In an unusually strongly worded editorial, L'Osservatore Romano said a presenter of a televised May Day rock concert, which is sponsored by Italy's labor unions, had launched "vile attacks" on Pope Benedict in front of an "excitable crowd". And the substance of those "terrorist" attacks? He criticized the Church for refusing a Catholic funeral to a handicapped man who campaigned for euthanasia but gave Catholic funerals to the likes of Gen. Pinochet and Franco. Wow, how....terrorist. This pope doesn't believe in religious liberty at all.
