They just ain't making conservative, religious right agenda-friendly GOP senators like they used to. Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID), as most of the nation probably knows by now, pleaded guilty to lewd behavior in an airport men's room, tending to confirm longstanding rumors and accusations that Craig is gay. The Washington, DC newspaper, Roll Call broke the story, which included portions of the police report:
"At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present. I could hear several unknown persons in the restroom that appeared to use the restroom for its intended use. The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area," the report states. The Wiley Drake episode leads to an interesting newspaper report on reactions to his call for imprecatory prayer Over at Street Prophets, Cross and reports on the recent anti-IRD resolutions passed by annual conferences of the United Methodist Church . The Houston Chronicle editorializes about a law passed by the religious right dominated Texas state legislature and signed by the religious right governor, Rick Perry. D. James Kennedy retired as Senior Pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, FL last week. Lest anyone think that the Kennedy empire intends to fade away along with the founder, Coral Ridge Ministries is discussing their current 5 year plan for growth, which includes: ... a media library containing nearly all of Dr. Kennedy's print, audio, and video messages over the last four decades. Coral Ridge Ministries is also harnessing new media, including video on demand, mobile phone delivery, curriculum development, and innovative short-form convergent presentations on topics such as abortion, America's Christian history, and biblical authority.
