The antiabortion movement has always been international in scope. But it is now increasingly moving into electoral politics as well. Epitomizing the trend is an upcoming secret political training conference hosted by a leading U.S based Catholic antiabortion lobby.

Talk to Action has learned that the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute C-FAM is hosting an international political training conference in cooperation with the Arlington, Virginia-based Leadership Institute, January 21-28th.

This is the second such conference. "The first international training institute," wrote C-FAM honcho Austin Ruse in a recent letter to activists, "brought 60 people from all over the world for a weeklong seminar taught by the most experienced political professionals in the United States."

He continues, "You cannot afford to miss the opportunity to learn from those who have taken back politics in America from the left and the far left."

The sponsors are a bit paranoid, or perhaps just cautious, however:

In order to ensure that our opponents do not infiltrate, you will have to go through a rigorous interview process, but it is well worth it to learn how to take back your country!

The program does not appear on the Leadership Institutes schedule of programs.

Here is the text of the brochure, outlining the contents of the program:

Learn the techniques that have built the pro-freedom and pro-family movements in the United States.  All lecturers will be experts who have helped build these movements.

What Will You Learn?

--  How the political right in the United States went from defeat to
victory.

--  The real nature of politics.

--  The difference between strategy and tactics, and how to design a
strategy.

        --  How to raise money.

--  How to recruit and retain volunteers.

--  How to work with the media - even if they don't agree with you.

--  How to utilize effective television techniques, in an actual TV
studio.

--  How to develop a message, and stay with it.

--  How to build an independent organization and why you need to.

--  The nature of coalitions, and how to build and maintain them.

--  Understanding how legislatures work, and how to lobby them.

--  How to organize young people.

--  How to win elections: campaign strategy and tactics, poll
security, voter identification and turnout.

        --  and more!

The staffer for the program is longtime conservative activist Connie Marshner, Director of International Programs at the Leadership Institute.

The Family Research Council is hosting a conference in DC this weekend geared to "values voters."  Read more on Rev. Haffner's blog at the Religious Institute on Sexual Morality, Justice, and Healing.
